I will try my best to give you some information on the subject. economical, sociological, political ramifications would require hundreds of pages and months of study and fact finding.
Many pharmaceuticals are so complex that it is not economically feasible to synthesise it in a laboratory. e.g. the anti-cancer drugs vincristine sulfate and vinblastine sulfate are so complex that plant extraction is the only economical production method. ( form the mediterranean periwinkel plant). Some chemicals, like antibiotics are used long before their chemical structure is discovered, and they are are extracted from bacterial or fungal fermentation). . A good example is penecillin. The exact molecular structure was determined decades after its first use. And laboratory synthesis was effected 50 years after Alexander Fleming's first discovery. It is still cheaper to extract the basic beta lactam molecule and modify it chemically in order to make newer semi sybthetic derivatives. (like ampicillin, cloxacillin, methicillin etc.). There are problems with natural plant exctracts. The source plant can be rare and in danger of going extinct if heavily exploited. A good example is the anticancer drugs taxol and paclitaxel. The source pacific yew tree is an uncommon plant and in danger. A bacterial alternate source has recently been discovered..
Hope that helps.
Doc. Dan.

Detox is hell, especially if you do it cold turkey.
Get to some NA meetings. They are everywhere. Listening to other people sharing their stories and sharing your own is a great way to keep it under control
Good luck

I know this sounds extremely stupid, but a good way to work with it is with the rubber band trick. Put a rubber band around your wrist, and every time you start to think about them, snap it, painfully. I used to be a cutter and I would do it every time I wanted to cut, and it actually helped me a lot.
I empathize with you, though. My best friend was addicted to painkillers and it definitely wasn’t easy for her to stop or get over the urges.

time.
and dont even think of them
or having em just once
(cause youll be right back at them, and worse then ever, and then youll have to go to meetings!)

Sounds like you got addicted to them and are now going through withdrawl symptoms. Don’t be concerned about the addicted part as that does happen to a decent amount of people. With that said, i might recommend doing a detox, will cleanse your body of any reminits of the drug left in your body. Can help with the cravings. Also try filling that void with sometthing like exercise, which helps to releas endorphines which create a “happy high” type feeling

uhh sounds like you’re going through withdrawals. You probably need rehab, or to go to NA meetings, or something for help. It might even help to just talk to someone else who used to use them but doesn’t anymore. Try to find other ways to get rid of stress and focus on them instead of the pills

For detox instead of you in you and whenever you being zombie drug addiction gets worse when you are sick of job money.
For detox instead of cushy rehab loss of the dui charge even and cranky dr and mental wards go to narcotics anonymous meeting sometime and remember those are sick of you wont miss them so you could take.

ahhh
You have not read the banner headline at the top where it says "a candid look at health, politics and life"
I suppose I could say, "well, it’s my blog, and I can write what I like" but, sure, mostly I write about medical and medical related matters….but I am also very interested in politics. The problem about most political blogs is that, good though some of them are, they are mostly VERY right wing - so there is plenty of room for more political blog comment from the middle ground. Which is where I am.
I have been accused over the last three years of being a "wishy washy liberal", of being an unreconsituted lefty interested only in socialised medicine, and of being too right wing.
Still trying to make my mind up. And still feeling the shame of voting for Tony Blair.
On the topic in hand, I am no fan of Gordon Brown’s but this piece in the Mail is disgraceful.

Ahhh, me olvidaba.
¡Gracias!
